EA Sports has slowly been releasing details for “Madden NFL 21,” but one person got a head start and leaked some information that hasn’t been released yet.
Twitter user Cameron Mertz tweeted several screenshots of Madden 21 on Monday before deleting them. In a response to Madden YouTuber RBT, Mertz says he “glitched into” the beta mode and that’s how he was able to take so many screenshots. EA Sports recently had a closed beta for Madden 21, but that was more focused on gameplay.
RBT talked to Mertz about how he discovered the leak, and explained the process a bit in his new video. In short, the beta continued to receive updates even though it wasn’t accessible. And Mertz was able to find a way to get into the beta for a short period of time to see the main menu.
The menu looks similar to the design pattern we’ve seen from official EA Sports releases for Madden 21 so far. It also features several items we already know about including Ultimate Team, Face of the Franchise and Superstar KO. But there’s a new item titled The Yard which has people intrigued.

The explanation for The Yard is as follows:
A new take on Madden with backyard rules! Play 6v6 with your friends to earn unique rewards for your Superstar.
This seems similar to NBA 2K’s The Neighborhood or FIFA 20’s Pro Clubs. The Pro Clubs explanation is, “Pro clubs is an online mode in FIFA 20 that allows you to create a Virtual Pro player and play your position on the pitch with teammates in a true representation of online [soccer].”
Since EA Sports creates FIFA and Madden, it shouldn’t be a stretch to think they’d create a similar game mode for their NFL vide game. The only snag is it also seems odd EA Sports hasn’t officially announced this game mode yet. It’s possible it could be a later feature added in, like Superstar KO was in Madden 20. Sporting News reached out to EA Sports for comment, but did not receive a response.
While some may see this new potential game mode and get upset that EA Sports isn’t fixing franchise mode, many others are excited. It looks like a fun, new creative mode that adds something different to the Madden library. Much like Superstar KO in Madden 20, it’s fun to get something new in a video game franchise that’s remained consistent for so many years.
One smaller observation from the leaked screenshot is that there is no Exhibition Mode. It’s not clear if that mode is accessible somewhere else, or if the mode just hasn’t been updated to the menu. It would be shocking if EA Sports simply removed it, and that honestly doesn’t even feel like it’s a possibility.
